[LWVNM Action] Shameful use of race & ethnicity in redistricting debate

The NM Legislature, especially the Senate, should be ashamed of their use
of race to cover up their attempts
at protection of incumbents.

Senate Democrats used it as a cover for the incumbent protection district
manipulation that was done in the Democratic caucus
       One thing that was never mentioned in the Senate debate was that CRC
Senate concept maps A-1 and C-1 both had Native American consensus.
       It was implied on the Senate & House floor that one of the reasons
for changing the CRC map was to include Native American consensus.

Senate Republicans used it to criticize the Democrats when they were really
concerned about the pairing of 2 Republican Senators.

This is a dangerous tactic and adds to the already divisive sentiments in
the country and the state. Senators of both sides should be held
accountable.
