*Update on Redistricting Legislation Activity*

*Filing of the Redistricting Act*

* 1. HB211 – Redistricting Act has been filed in the House by
Representatives Rebecca Dow, Natalie Figueroa, Kelly
Fajardo and Joy Garratt.* It has been assigned to House State
Government, Elections and Indian Affairs Committee. At the
bottom is contact information
for committee members. Please call them and urge them to
support HB211 – Redistricting
Act. We are told they aren’t paying much attention to
emails and the office phones are only
answered on weekdays, so call then. The Chair of the
Committee, Georgene Louis, has already
signed on as a co-sponsor as has Committee member Greg
Nibert. We have over 15 other co-
sponsors – both Republicans and Democrats.

            2. *The Senate version* of the bill will be filed on Monday by
Senators Ortiz y Pino and Moores.
The Senate has not had a floor session for over a week and
you need to have a bill read in
on the floor before it gets a number and committee
assignments. We expect it will go to Senate
Rules and Senate Judiciary. The vast majority of Senate
Rules is also on Judiciary. We will
send out an alert as soon as we get a bill number.

*Redistricting Reform will be the focus of the Virtual Roundhouse on
February 2nd 10 am to noon*

* In the 10 am hour: *Lilly Irvin-Vitela. President and
Executive Director of New Mexico First
and others discussing the recommendations of the Redistricting
Task Force

*In the 11 am hour: *Fair Districts for New Mexico and the
LWVNM will be joined by Senators Ortiz y Pino
and Moores to discuss legislative strategy for passing
redistricting reform. We hope to be
joined by State Auditor Brian Colon who has signed on as a
supporter of Fair Diatricts
