[LWVNM Action] LWVNM.org aliases currently not working

Dick reported a problem mailing to our advocates alias, and Meredith reported the same problem with leaders a couple weeks ago and I never got back to her (sorry, Meredith). I thought I'd better post something here to let everybody know what's going on.

Unfortunately, all mail to @lwvnm.org aliases right now will bounce from all gmail recipients. Google changed the rules (again) on what emails they would accept, and they've started blocking any email that comes through our lwvnm.org aliases.

I've corresponded with SWCP's (our web host) support, and they're aware of the problem; the only solution they can think of (and I agree they're most likely right) is to make their aliases work differently, and rewrite the From line so it looks like it's coming from the alias; so when you mail to somealias at lwvnm.org, instead of coming from your email address it will appear to come from somealias at lwvnm.org. The Action mailing list already does this, so you can look at the headers to this message. They say they're working on getting aliases to work this way, but they think it will take a couple of weeks before they're ready to roll it out.

The bright side is that the aliases have had this problem sporadically for years, and this should (I hope) fix it.

For now, please avoid using any @lwvnm.org alias, because the gmail users on the alias won't get your mail. I'll let you all know when I hear the problem is fixed.
