 Hi all,
It was great to see many of you at our Jan 5th meeting! I hope everyone had a wonderful break and are as ready as can be for the next 30 days 🙂 You can find the slides from our meetinghere. Just a couple other quick things to note:

   - If you'd like to receive text alerts for important tax and budget happenings this session, please sign up here. Any questions please reach out to Sarah on our team (sminor-schaeuble at nmvoices.org)!
   - As discussed in our meeting, we're continuing to fine tune a memo in response to a problematic LFC report on poverty released last month. For now, please share this great piece from some leading lawmakers on how our investments in families ARE paying off and should be continued! We're very concerned that the LFC is using this report to temper necessary, continued investments in our children and families.
   - Our national partners at the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy (ITEP) just released their updated Who Pays? Report last week, and drumroll please, New Mexico has the most improved tax code in the nation!! We're very excited and want to say a big THANK YOU! to everyone who has helped us advocate for a fairer, more equitable tax code these past several years. Here's Bill with PNS on the new ITEP report if you want to learn more.

We'll continue to be in touch as the session unfolds, and a reminder to sign up for text alerts if you're interested!
Best,NM Voices team

Hello Fairness Project,

Hope you all are well and looking forward to a restful holiday before the legislative session begins! We have a couple quick updates to share:

   - Bill and I presented to the Revenue Stabilization and Tax Policy committee last month (slides attached). It was a great opportunity to talk about the progress made thus far when it comes to improving equity through the tax code, and how we can build on that progress moving forward. We’ll discuss more at…
   - Our next NMFP meeting: January 5 th from 11:00-12:00pm. Please mark your calendars! We’ll discuss legislative priorities, revenue, expectations for the session, and more.

   - We’ve welcomed a new member to our team, Sarah Minor-Schaeuble! Sarah is our Outreach & Community Relations Manager, a role that will support coordinating and leading our myriad partnerships and coalitions, including NMFP.

   - Sarah was raised in the American Southwest and has been a proud New Mexican for most of her life. Prior to joining NM Voices, Sarah worked as a domestic violence victim advocate in the nonprofit and public sectors, supporting adult and child survivors as they navigated Sandoval and Bernalillo Counties’ legal and human service systems. She also worked as a program coordinator and media specialist for Animal Humane New Mexico and as a volunteer coordinator for a 2021 Albuquerque electoral campaign. Sarah completed her Bachelor’s and Master’s in Social Work at New Mexico Highlands University, convening multisectoral stakeholders to advance statewide health equity in her MSW internship with the New Mexico Alliance of Health Councils.
   - We’re delighted to welcome Sarah to the team and you all will have a chance to meet her on the 5 th!

Please feel free to reach out at any point if you have any questions or comments, otherwise I hope everyone has a safe and relaxing break! See you in the new year😊

Take care,

Paige
