Meredith, the facts about immigrants and taxes often get twisted. We’re
here to set the record straight:


   -

   *Undocumented immigrants pay taxes.* In 2022 alone, undocumented
   immigrants contributed *$96.7 billion* in federal, state, and local
   taxes.
   -

   In fact, they pay a *higher effective federal income tax rate than some
   of the richest Americans and 55 mega-corporations*, including Exxon
   Mobil, Target, and Tesla.
   -

   Undocumented immigrants pay sales taxes on things like groceries and
   gas, just like everyone else. They pay property taxes through rent — just
   like their neighbors. And they file income taxes using Individual Taxpayer
   Identification Numbers (ITINs).
   -

   *Their taxes help fund Medicare, Social Security, and unemployment
   insurance* — programs they’re barred from accessing because of their
   immigration status.

Undocumented immigrants are valuable, contributing members of our
communities. Meanwhile, billionaires exploit our labor and use their wealth
to rig the rules in their favor — dodging taxes and dividing us to keep
their power.

Taxing the ultra-wealthy would not only strengthen the economy but also
fund the critical services we all rely on. *If we truly want to prioritize
working people, we should stop attacking immigrants and start taxing the
ultra-rich.*
