Subject: [LWVNM Action] Update on the operation of the Legislature
[EXTERNAL]
Especially in a 60 day session the Legislature starts slowly.
The Senate will be introducing bills on the floor today. They should be up on the website this evening.
Then they will not meet again until next Monday. Legislators do not want to hear a bill in committees until the analysis is done.
Staff need time to do the analysis for the bill.
There may be Committee organizational meetings, but that is all.
We believe the House will follow the same process.
The exceptions may be the House Appropriations & Finance Committee and Senate Finance Committee. They are charged with developing the budget so they already have the proposed Legislative and Administration proposed budget, so they can start early.
If any change We will let you know
