I couldn't read the New Mexican article -- it's paywalled -- but Barbara sent me the link to the Pardo article:

which is the most horrifying magazine website I've ever seen. It's unbelievably bad, and I agree with Barbara that the articles aren't readable that way.

Eventually I figured out there's a Download link (down-arrow icon) in the toolbar at the bottom. Click that, and it generates a PDF (it takes a while, so be patient) which is much more readable. The Pardo article starts on page 18.
