[Awclist] Proposed Rock Fall Project - Effects on Races?

I'm a little concerned about how the project will effect out ability to
hold our annual races. The construction would occur in the fall so this
would not effect the races, but it appears that the project will narrow
the available roadway between Albert's falls, where we hold the races,
and the Picnic Tables. This is the area where people park for the races.
In recent years the NM DOT has been resistant in years past to letting
us hold the races in this area. In recent years it's been a NM DOT
policy of don't ask and we won't object. This will just make matters
worse. This year will be the 50th year the races will have been held. I
don't see how they can say the project will have no cultural impact when
they don't address how it will effect the races along the stretch of the
river they acknowledge as the "Racecourse".
The proposed project would be built during the fall to minimize impact
to users of the area, so the detour through the area where we hold the
race should not have an impact on the races.
