AWC has always had a lot of interest from members in organized trips.
Last year's fun floats on the Rio Grande averaged 27 people.
In order to offer a wider variety we are designing a trip leader
training program. The trips are club events, and therefore covered by
our ACA insurance. In order to protect both participants and trip
leaders, AWC has decided that any trip leader must be certified in
FirstAid/CPR and Swift Water Rescue. Trip leaders will also be supplied
with guidelines on how to determine ability levels of participants, how
to organize a trip and other topics of interest/concern.
In order to assist trip leaders in receiving these skills AWC will be
organizing clinics to teach the required skills. If you agree to the
trip leader program, you will receive training free - but you must
commit to lead two trips before paddling season ends in 2008. If you
don't meet the goal of two trips, there will be a back charge to you of
50% ($92.50) of the AWC retail price of the courses. AWC charges $150
per person for Swift Water Rescue (commercial prices average $350) and
the First Aid/CPR classes costs $35. (See the calendar below for the
scheduled training programs.)
The First Aid/CPR has a maximum of 15 students and will be held in
Albuquerque. If there is room in the class regular members may attend
for $35 per person.
If you're interested in the program or want to sign up for the classes
please contact Lisa Goodrich, trip coordinator: 505-430-2320 (cell) or
e-mail her at waterdawgg at gmail.com.
Schedule:
March 31st (Saturday) First Aid/CPR in Albuquerque
April 30 - May 1st - (Monday & Tuesday) in Pilar, NM
