River Fest 2007 was a great success and a lot of fun! We are looking
forward to another fantastic year for our whitewater activities. Once
again, we are in the planning stages for our raft rides for River Fest
2008 (May 23 -- 25) and are looking for volunteers to help with all
phases of this event. To assist with the task of organizing this year's
event, there is a volunteer information card at the bottom of this
message. Please take a moment to complete, and return this _as soon as
possible _along with the Volunteer Waiver. You may return it to the
HHPC, attention Josh Stratman, 4601 College Blvd., Farmington, NM
87402. If you're unsure about when you can help, note it on the card
and telephone Josh Stratman at 505-566-3113 when you know your
availability. Thanks for your help with this. If you know of others who
would be willing to volunteer, please send their names, addresses and
phone numbers to me, so I can contact them.

We are also requiring all raft captains to be current in CPR. We are
offering two CPR classes which are free to all River Fest Volunteers.
These classes will be held at the HHPC on April 30^th 6:00 -- 8:00 pm
and May 13^th 6:00 -- 8:00 pm. Please call or email Josh Stratman or
Marcel Bieg at 566-3113 or stratmanj at sanjuancollege.edu
<mailto:stratmanj at sanjuancollege.edu> to register.

In addition to the CPR we are _requiring that all Raft Captains have at
least one run/float down the river_ _prior to River Fest_. We have
dates set to run rafts down the river. We will meet at the rental
center and carpool to the put-in. Practice runs are schedule for 5:30
pm on May 5^th , 7^th , 12^th , and 14^th . We are also planning a
"Raft Rescue" practice session at the Farmington Aquatic Center May 8^th
from 6:00 -- 7:30 pm. All raft captains are encouraged to attend.
Please let Josh Stratman know which practice run you would like to do.

We will be holding the MANDATORY RAFT RIDE OPERATIONS MEETING at:

     6:00 pm Friday, May 16^th

     The "Zia" Room

     Health & Human Performance Center

*This is the mandatory meeting for all raft operations volunteers*. The
meeting will last approximately one (1) hour and will provide us a
chance to update volunteers about this year's changes, discuss the raft
schedule, shuttle procedures, and to tie up any loose ends. Please plan
on attending!

With this year's incredible snow pack we are anticipating high water
levels on the Animas River, we are developing a contingency plan to deal
with this situation. In the event of that plan, things will run
slightly different. We will discuss the final plans at the volunteers
meeting mentioned above.

River Fest is an event that is highly valued by many people from the
Four Corners area and beyond. For many, the raft rides are the
highlight of the event, providing them with many fond memories. If it
was not for you, the volunteer, we could not provide this opportunity
for them. Once again, thank you for your continued support and
dedication to River Fest.

Sincerely,

Josh Stratman, Marcel
Bieg, Diana Lang,
