Adobe Whitewater Club members,
A woman and her 2 boys (~9-11yrs old) recently took my 6hr Intro to Kayak class. The boys excelled more than most adults in class, and were the first to raise their hands when I asked the class a question.
 
Several days later, I found out that the boys' father recently passed away and the mother is trying to find activities that the three of them can do together, kayaking being one of them. See her note below.
 
I would like to help her and the kids through this difficult time, and through the holiday season, by aquiring 2 kids kayaks and related gear. I'd like to ask members of the club if they have any kids kayaks they would be willing to donoate for this cause. Alternatively, I may be willing to buy selected good-condition kayaks through my business, and donate them to her.  The two boys paddled Jackson 1.5s in class, and the boats fit them well.  
 
I'll also be working directly with the manufacturers to aquire 2 paddles, skirts, PFDs and helmets. 
 
It is good to know who has kids kayaks for sale as well, as I'm often in contact with potential buyers.  
 
Please give this your thoughtful consideration. If you have a kids kayak you would like to get rid of, please let me know (1) if you would be willing to donate it, or (2) what you'd be willing to sell it for.

Hi Kelly,
Thanks so much for the great photos from Saturday's class. Sorry for the delay in responding--we are moving to another home out here and haven't had internet. 

We all had a great time and are looking forward to continuing and actually getting out on an easy river. I was very encouraged by how well the boys took to the class.  Like you mentioned, team sports have generally a disappointment--too much pressure and deranged parents, etc, leaving the kids without a chance to experience the fun of just playing a game.  Also, their father died recently and I am trying to find a way to have a family activity that builds confidence and keeps us looking forward to trips. I'm thinking we could eventually connect with other families with kids and be able to go as a group.

We are trying to get organized with this move and then I'm hoping to attend the weekly meeting at Los Altos pool for more practice.
