This may be of interest to folks who want to get a whitewater park in
Albuquerque, and to those interested in water usage in general. Chance
to tour the water facilities and perhaps make some contacts.

of the subject conference and the bicycle ride options, to see and learn

The 2009 Albuquerque Tour de Agua is an opportunity to visit
state-of-the-art water management facilities operated by the Albuquerque
Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority, while enjoying Albuquerque’s
beautiful weather and excellent bicycle trails.

The Tour de Agua offers four rides for bicyclists of any skill level.

*Pequeño* - The Tour de Agua* Pequeño* is a 9-mile round-trip at your
own pace along the Rio Grande, using the Paseo del Bosque Recreational
Trail, to visit the Rio Grande Nature Center. Riders may also ride an
additional 5 miles round-trip to visit the Albuquerque Botanical Garden
(additional admission fee). Riders from all rides will share box lunches
at the Nature Center at 11:30 AM.

*Medio* - The Tour de Agua* Medio* is a 25-mile loop using recreational
trails, bike lanes and some city streets to visit three ABCWUA
facilities: The San Juan-Chama Project diversion structure, the Bear
Canyon Aquifer Recharge Pilot Project, and the San Juan-Chama Water
Treatment Facility, on the east side of Albuquerque. Brief informative
presentations will be provided at each stop. Pace will be moderate
(10-12 mph) and elevation gain is around 500 ft. Riders will stop to
share box lunches at the Rio Grande Nature Center at around 11:30 AM.
Those riders not participating in the Tour de Agua Grande or Tour de
Agua Ultimo will return to their cars along the Paseo del Bosque
Recreational Trail.

*Grande* - The Tour de Agua* Grande* adds another 15 mile round-trip
south along the Paseo del Bosque Recreational Trail to visit the
Southside Water Reclamation Facility in Albuquerque’s South Valley. A
bonus is an optional stop at the National Hispanic Cultural Center.

*Ultimo* - The Tour de Agua* Ultimo* adds another 10 miles on bike lanes
and recreational trails, with ??? ft of elevation gain, to visit the
Arsenic Treatment Facility on the west side of town. A bonus is an
optional stop at the Petroglyphs National Monument Visitors Center.
