I have paddled the section between Los Lunas and Belen and it can be very
shallow, even for a lightly loaded canoe. If you can catch the river at
higher flows it would be a nice trip. Early Spring would probably be the
ideal time.  There are a lot of sand bars that you could camp on, but not
much in the way of access. There is a good place to stop in Los Lunas on the
east side of the river just south of the Hwy 6 bridge. There is also a good
stop in Belen at the State Park.

If you decide to make this trip I would be interested to know how it goes
and what information you get before you go.
