It's spring and the rivers are flowing, it is time to dust off the river
gear and get it wet and we have a great opportunity to do a fun river
with lots of beautiful scenery, wildlife, Indian ruins, geologic
features, and much more. The Adobe White Water Club has a trip permit
for the San Juan River from Sand Island to Clay Hills, a distance of 84
miles. The river is mostly flat water with occasional class II and 2
class III rapids and the water level should be around 5,100 cfs based on
historical USGS data. The trip will launch on May 12 from Sand Island
and will be a 6 day (5night) trip. The permit is for 24 people; however,
the limiting factor will be the number of rafts we have. For 24 people
we need a minimum of 6 rafts, if some people kayak, but I would prefer
8. So my first priority is to identify people with rafts who would like
to go on the trip. If you are interested, contact the trip leader, Rick
Deshler, at rickdeshler at hotmail.com with the following information:
the size of your raft
how many people are in your party
How many people other than your party you can support either as
passengers or extra bags
a very brief summary of your rowing level/experience.
Since this is a club trip we are limiting participation to club members
and their immediate families. If we do not get enough club members
signed up we will consider non-club members in order to take maximum
advantage of the permit.
If you would like to go on the trip but do not have a raft, send an
e-mail to the trip leader. Include your name and whether you want to
kayak or be a raft passenger. Once we know how many rafts are going
these request swill be included on a first come first served basis,
based on the e-mail date and time.
Costs for the trip will be divided equally. At the end of the trip all
receipts for food, permit fee, shuttles, and any other group expenses
will be totaled and divided among all participants. Shuttle information
will be provided at a later date. You are on your own for getting to
Sand Island and getting home from Clay Hills. However; there will be
enough people going that I am sure we can do some car pooling to reduce
gas and shuttle costs. We are requiring a $50 deposit per person to
defray some of the initial trip expenses; however, do not send a check
until instructed to do so by the trip leader
