Eric Southwick, our son, wanted us to experience an international
expedition style river trip in Nepal and so..... it began!
> From Albuquerque to Japan to Bangkok (27 hours travel time!!!) with a short
stay to re-group with others on the trip, breakfast, Thai massage and off to
the airport for Katmandu, Nepal. Our senses were geared up wanting to be in
the moment the whole time - a lifetime adventure in travel modes, cultures,
flexibility,oh yeah... a honeymoon, and we can not forget ... the river
adventures unsurpassed. Big water from the base of the Himalayas, steep
mountain canyons, extended monsoon rains made for some exciting and
formidable rapids....paddle rafts, kayakers, gear boats.
Our trip was punctuated w/ several returns to Katmandu for regrouping. The
rivers in Nepal were The Karnali (Plan A)-yes, there were crocodiles!, Sun
Kosi(Plan B), and The Tamur w/ a 4 day trek thru the foothills of the
Himalayas to reach the river put-in with Katchenchenga Peak looming in the
dustance. There were side trips to Bardia National Park with elephant rides
thru the Tarai (jungle)in search of the 3-toed Rhino. Our various
interactions with the Nepali people, from the river guides, to tribal
leaders, children.... from the streets of Katmandu to the rural villagers,
- Bus rides on narrow steep roads winding up the mountain sides from the
river valley, the horn honking "discussions" of traffic, The Monkey Temple,
shopping, from city to rural and back.... airports - foods, water, and
more...
Come check it out! What's your next adventure?
