Good afternoon all. Flows on the Rio Chama are currently 830 cfs due to a high demand for water from the Middle Rio Grande Basin. Flows are likely to stay this high through the weekend if we do not receive heavy rainfall. There is some rain in the forecast for Thursday and Friday but the forecast also calls for temperatures in the upper 90s through the weekend. Demand will likely remain high and therefore, the flows will likely remain in the 700 to 800 cfs range.
I’m also including some information below on an upcoming event in Albuquerque. The America’s Great Outdoors Listening Session is scheduled for Saturday in Albuquerque. The Secretary of Interior and Undersecretary of Agriculture are among the officials that will be there listening to the thoughts and concerns of outdoor enthusiasts like yourselves. If you’re interested in attending, please RSVP directly to me by Friday. It is open to the public, but we’d like to have a pretty good headcount to make proper arrangements. We are also having a youth session on Saturday morning from 10 a.m. to 11:30 at the same location. If you know of any youth interested in attending please pass along my contact info.
Thanks,
Mary Carlson

NOTICE OF A PUBLIC LISTENING SESSION ON THE PRESIDENT’S AMERICA’S GREAT OUTDOORS INITIATIVE
Please join senior representatives from the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI), the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for a public listening session and discussions in New Mexico on conservation, recreation, and reconnecting people to the outdoors. The session will be held July 17 from 1:30 pm to 4:00 p.m. at Marriott Pyramid North in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
This past April, at the White House Conference on America’s Great Outdoors, President Obama signed a memorandum establishing the America’s Great Outdoors Initiative to develop a conservation agenda worthy of the 21st century and to reconnect Americans with our great outdoors. The President understands that protecting and restoring the lands and waters that we love and reconnecting people to the outdoors must happen at the local level.
Therefore, President Obama directed the principal leaders of the America’s Great Outdoors Initiative to travel across the country to listen and learn from people directly involved in finding grassroots solutions to conserve our lands, waterways, historical and cultural resources, and reconnect Americans to the outdoors. The President indicated that the sessions should engage the full range of interested groups, including tribal leaders, farmers and ranchers, sportsmen, community park groups, foresters, youth groups, businesspeople, educators, State and local governments, recreation and conservation groups, and others.
This listening session in New Mexico offers an opportunity for us to engage in a conversation about the solutions you and your community have created to address the challenges and opportunities facing land and water conservation; for engaging people in outdoor activities; and in restoring and conserving our vital natural and cultural resources.
The public listening session and discussions on July 17th provide an opportunity for the leaders of the America’s Great Outdoors Initiative to hear from you and other voices in the region about solutions for building a 21st century conservation and recreation agenda and for reconnecting people with the outdoors. Please join us. Here are the details:
