hey crew-

We put in and park at the bridge near TA i believe its called los ojos bridge. We park upstream of the bridge river left in the large parking area close to the highway. there's a fence gate you can drive closer to the river be sure to close the gate while you put in or the horses well get out. i always take out at el vado north launch ramp, check with ev sp to see if gate is open. some great rapids below trail (stairs) takeout and spillway road takeout. lake takeout isno more than a mile paddle not bad even in strong winds. check out cool grotto under rim below big mama chama river right. (hike up).flow is La puente gauging station on usgs anything over 1000 is plenty. 2500 was really cool!

don't think we can make it up there this weekend. also great campsites down there on the river you can also car camp on the river river left from roads going north to river from road between TA and Cooper's.
  Have fun!

Eric

For those new to the upper Chama or Big Mamma Chama
This might help in description but perhaps Tim or Plikerds could also shed light on the put- in and take outs, do your own shuttle but where is it ok to park cars/trailers etc…..

hey Tim,

A friend and i ran the upper Chama a few weeks ago on a monday, it was about 2500 cfs. we saw fences but none spanning the river, and none we had to get out of our boats to negotiate. There are a couple cables spanning the river, you should have plenty of room to get under these, too. Big Mama Chama unobstructed by snags, but plenty on top of the big rock.
are you going to run on sunday, too? i work friday until 8pm.

At the takeout, north el vado launch ramp, which we had not gone to before our run, The gate was locked about a quarter mile from the ramp, so we had to hump our gear past the gate. I called el vado state park and asked about opening the gate, and he said it should be open soon. i advise you call them to check this before the weekend.

see ya on the river,

eric
