Dear Water Quality Stakeholder:

The Surface Water Quality Bureau of the New Mexico Environment
Department invites public comment on two proposals to amend the surface
water quality standards:

1)The Department proposes to change the aquatic life use for the *lower
Dry Cimarron* from coldwater with a 25°C segment-specific temperature
criterion to coolwater with a 29°C temperature criterion. A Use
Attainability Analysis has been prepared to support the proposal. The
Department held a public meeting in Folsom on August 12, 2010 to solicit
input on the proposed changes.

2)The Department proposes to classify or reclassify approximately 70 New
Mexico lakes into *new lake-only segments*, with each lake segment
containing a lake or group of similar lakes with appropriate designated
uses and criteria.

The public is invited to comment on the proposed amendments, which are
available on the Department’s Water Quality Standards web page at
http://www.nmenv.state.nm.us/swqb/Standards/ under “What’s New.”

The Bureau will hold two *public meetings *on the lakes proposal:

branch of the Santa Fe public library, 1730 Llano Street.

·*Roswell, Tuesday, August 30, 5:30 p.m.*at the New Mexico Environment
Department Field Office, 1914 West Second Street.
