[Awclist] 18' cataraft useful around here?

Does anyone have much experience using an 18' cataraft on southwestern rivers?  I'm trying to decide if it's possible to have a cat that can carry gear for a family of five on the Grand and still be usable on the Rio Grande Race Course/Box, Animas, Dolores, Chama, San Juan, etc. at other times to accompany kayakers.

I've considered an Aire Lion 16' and a Leopard 18', but wanted to hear from those with experience whether an 18' cat is just too big for most of the SW runs.
