[Awclist] Cochiti Lake Log Boom CLOSURE

Dear Boaters,

This is to advise you that THE COCHITI LOG BOOM is CLOSED. We have had
increasingly significant thunderhead formation over the Jemez Mountains
and Las Conchas burn area for the last week or so. The potential for
significant rainfall and runoff events is increasing. Cochiti Lake staff
thought it best to close the log boom before large numbers of boats
arrive at Cochiti Lake, potentially coinciding with a large runoff
event. This will also allow our Park Rangers to focus more closely on
water safety during the periods of heavy traffic we expect over the 4th
of July.

It is labor intensive and time consuming for our staff to open and close
the log boom. We expect to keep the log boom closed for as long as
weather patterns indicate the need to do so; perhaps even for the rest
of the monsoon season. The log boom may be re-opened at such time when
it is expected that there would be significant public advantage in doing
so and an extremely low risk of flooding and debris flows.

Thank you,

Dana M. Price
