Well said Peggy.

Tim & Mary have helped keep the AWC together for years now.  How many?  Still trying to piece that one together myself.  

I'm also trying to piece together the history of the raft and kayak races in Pilar, currently known as the Mother's Day Races.  The AWC has played a very significant role in these races over the years.  Stretch Fretwell, from Los Alamos and Explorer Post 20) started the races in about 1955 after growing tired of driving up to Salida for what the FIBArk offered.  My first involvement in the races was about 1970 when I was in Post 20 and contested the kayak slalom races.  'Contested' is being generous here.  My recollection of the races is rather spotty.  Why?  Because I was upside down a lot.  I was a terrible kayaker - but it was fun.

The races essentially died but are being revived by some of the local commercial outfitters - primarily John Seiner of Kokopelli.  AWC is still symbolically involved in the races.  The past 3 years, I've borrowed the AWC megaphone from Tim and schlepped it up to Pilar to help facilitate the races.

After being recruited to introduce this year's MD Race's awards ceremony with a history of the event;  I'm now trying to put together a reasonably accurate timeline of the MD Races.  To that end, if anyone can offer what they know of the events over the years (off list preferably) , please send me a description (as brief or extended as you have time for); of what you know.  Peggy has already helped with this 'research'.
