There's is also an open class downriver kayak race at 2:00. All kayak's welcome, I'll be racing in my NRS Bandit inflatable kayak. And don't overlook the awards ceremony at Blue Heron Brewery in Rinconada - $2 pints for the racers!
AWC is still playing a part in the races, albeit small. I've borrowed AWC's megaphone for the races for the past 3 years now. Speaking of years gone by, this year is either the 41st or 42nd anniversary of my first time entering the race. That was back when I was a kid in Los Alamos with Explorer Post 20.
The raft race is 4R, but if you don't have 4, just dive in with how many you have. Some racers will be competitive (running from Quartzite to the County Line in less than 45 minutes); others just out having fun on the river. Costumes welcome too.
I hope all the folks at TJB this weekend know of the races so they can join in or spectate.
