Presenters: Rip Harwood, Sara Traub, and Norm Gaume

Rip, Sara, and Norm will share their photos, tales and trip details of their
River Trip on the Alek River thru BC, Yukon, & Alaska.

In this far north adventure the Alsek River starts at Hains Junction
crossing 3 borders, British Columbia, Yukon Territory, and Alaska merging
with the Tatshenshini River and ending near the confluence at Dry Bay and
the Pacific. It goes thru a Grizzly Santuary, is full of glaciers merging at
otherwise sidestreams of most rivers we know.  Bring a tent that can
withstand 70mph winds and sideways rain with storms coming in from the
Pacific. Tent STAKES are amazing! Dotted with icebergs, the river has
challenges such as helicopter portages, hikes up to the homes of mountain
goats whose vistas of the glaciers and distant mountain ranges surpass none.
The Alsek is a swift glacial melt high volume (~120,000cfs) river starting
out wide and braided challenging your choice of a navigable channel and then
funneling into the narrows of Turnback Canyon!  Where in the world IS the
Alsek ARiver and how do you get there? ....come hear more!
