Rip, Sara, and Norm will share their photos, tales and trip details of a
River Trip on the Alek River in BC, Yukon, & Alaska.
In this far north adventure the Alsek River starts at Hains Junction
crossing 3 borders, British Columbia, Yukon Territory, and Alaska merging
with the Tatshanshini River and ending near the confluence at Dry Bay and
the Pacific. It goes thru a Grizzly Santuary, is full of glaciers merging at
otherwise sidestreams of most rivers we know.  Bring a tent that can
withstand 70mph winds and sideways rain with storms coming in from the
Pacific. Tent STAKES are amazing! Dotted with icebergs, the river has
challenges requiring helicopter portages, .... and hikes up to the homes of
mountain goats whose vistas of the glaciers and distant mountain ranges
surpass none. The Alsek is a swift glacial melt high volume (120,000cfs)
river starting wide with braided channels challenging your choice of a
navigable channel and funneling into the narrows of Turnback Canyon.  Where
