January is over! 2014 is well underway with February 11th meeting having 2*
presenters!
1. Rick Deschler - Kayaking the Kings River in California
Rick Deshler has a presentation on Kayaking on the Kings River in California
A trip record of his nephew, Oliver Deshlar's, most excellent extreme run.
The Middle Fork of the Kings River in California is the king of expedition
kayaking
in the lower 48. Guarded by a grueling 12 mile hike over a 12,000 foot pass
the river plunges nearly 200 feet per mile for 40 miles,
dropping 7000 feet off the spine of the Sierra's. A successful descent of
the Middle Kings requires crossing the Sierra's from east to west by foot
and
then descending the river by boat. Envision that or better yet he has slides
to show!
2. *Larry Hersman - the Rio Grande Gorge Trail Project Larry Hersman
unable to attend due to family emergency.
Please read attachments for a better understanding of his presentation -
bring your questions along.
Where his trail is proposed can be seen in Paul Bauer's River Guide of the
Rio Grande for visual presentation.
His could be relevant to the scoping plan for Rio Grande Del Norte National
Monument by BLM
Peter Small - new board member attended the BLM meeting in Santa Fe last
Tuesday - see his awclist request for input.
Date: Tuesday, February 11th
Time: 6:30 meeting - comes early to visit, order drink or
dinner (not required)
Location: New TownHouse Restaurant on 9018 Central S.E.
- east of Wyoming and on the south side - before you get to the intersection
where Zuni merges w/ Central
Feel free to bring a friend. You do not have to be a member to attend.
We have two presentations so want to start on time.
We have new Board Members to introduce and thanks to give for those stepping
off the board but not out of the club.
Larry Hersman will speak on the Rio Grande Gorge Trail - Please note due to
family emergency Larry will be unable to attend.
2 attachments above - provided for your perusal prior to the meeting
hope that some of you will take the time to read before the meeting
so that his presentation and your questions can be addressed more
efficiently.
He is seeking endorsement from the Adobe Whitewater Club among other
organizations for this project.
A HUGE thanks to all of you who came and supported the Special Presentation
of the Emerald Mile by Kevin Fedarko.
We had a record attendance! Donations in the jar paid for the WHOLE amount
of the pizza and salad! THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!
I can only say we should have ordered a few more pizzas - apologies for
those of you that did not get food!
