Hello all. 6 riders made the trip to Asheville, NC, this past weekend for collegiate national championships:

Nik Podhraski,
Sue Alschuler,
Doug Torres,
Nate Bia,
Lauren Tininenko,
and Elisa Woody.

Nik, Sue, and Doug were eligible for all three events. They all finished the very challenging road race and very challenging criterium.

Nik was off the front in the road race, finally finishing in the lead chase group for 33rd out of 154. Doug and Sue both finished as well.

Sue finished the criterium. Normally, finishing a crit is not such a big deal, but on Saturday only 8 women out of 60 finished on the lead lap.

Nik and Doug were both fantastic. Nik got up for 23rd and Doug finished 60-something out of 125 of the best crit riders in America. Those are great results for both of those guys.

For his efforts, Nik was 21st in the individual omnium. All it cost him was 4,000+ training miles and 35 vertical miles since January. Ride lots, kids!

In the TTT, the men finished 18th, starting with only 3 riders. The course was 30k with more total climbing than AdEx. According to Nate Bia's Strava segments, he was cranking about 315watts the whole time. 5% more than at AdEx where the Lobos were second in the SW Conference. That's a good effort!

The women's TTT finished 9th. Two of the girls, Elisa and Lauren, are just in their first season of racing!

As a team, your Lobos finished 17th at road championships. That, combined with our 6th place at cyclocross nationals thanks to "The Army of Two" (Tizzie DeHorney and Doug Torres), gives the Lobos 13th place overall out of 136 D1 collegiate programs in the U.S. for the 2014-15 season.

Just for kicks, the racers did the individual time trial Sunday afternoon after racing Sunday morning. Keep in mind that most of the ITT riders didn't do the team time trial. Nik Podhraski was 25th out of 59 and Elisa Woody, in her 4th day of racing ever, was 23rd out of 37...at national championships. Great results to end a great season.

This has been a super group of students to work with and they couldn't have done it without you, the fans. Thank you and stay tuned: track nationals are in C Springs in September! Go Lobos!
