Greetings, members of the cycling community,

As some few of you may know, I am on the board of directors of The Day Of The Tread. Yesterdays’s event was outstanding and on behalf of the board I want to take this opportunity to thank those of you who registered and participated.
However, there were those among you who, for their own reasons, chose otherwise and participated without registering. While we understand that, since we use public thoroughfares for our event, that it is highly likely that many cyclists find themselves on our courses(s) during their own rides. Several will ride with their friends or families for brief periods during the day of our event. On the other hand, there were those who, without registering (“banditing”), chose to begin their ride at our starting line and finish at our finish line thus, without paying to do so, and possibly avoiding using our rest stops, still availed themselves of the services of APD, BCSD and the flaggers provided through administrative costs to Day Of The Tread. These expenses do not come cheaply and effect the net proceeds that can be donated to our beneficiary, Pegasus Legal Services for Children.
No member of the board or anyone administratively associated with DOTT is paid. In fact many of us use our own money to supplement the event’s gross proceeds. For some cyclists to knowingly, willingly and with seemingly little regard for the value of and costs of the legal services provided through our donation to Pegasus seems to us to be a slap in our faces and, in fact, extremely arrogant on the part of the cyclists that do it.
To join the ride without registering diminishes the cycling community and your fellow cyclists and friends who devoted countless hours and energy to create a safe and fun event to benefit New Mexico's children.

Again, thank you all who did register and participate. We hope you enjoyed the weather and the courses and spent a great day on your bikes!!

Sincerely,
Woody
