A short History of GFNY
GFNY was founded in 2010 by Lidia and Uli Fluhme and held for the first time in NYC on May 8th2011. The idea for GFNY was born from the first gran fondo Lidia and Uli did together in the Italian Alps. Lidia was inspired and challenged by the experience of racing start to finish on the steep alpine roads. GFNY brought this format of a true Italian gran fondo to NYC. It has since grown to an event of 5,000 riders from more than 90 countries that race the third Sunday in May from the start on the iconic George Washington Bridge.

Global expansion of GFNY with GFNY World
On September 21st 2014, the first GFNY World event is held in Terracina, Italy. GFNY quickly expanded around the world. In 2019 GFNY is the world’s largest cycling marathon series with 20 events, including five regional championships and the world GFNY championship in NYC. Events are held in Argentina, Bali, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Indonesia, Italy, Israel, Mexico, Panama, Philippines, Portugal, Uruguay and the USA.

GFNY Santa Fe
Only the second GFNY race to be in the United States, and the site of the GFNY North American Championship, GFNY World comes to the southwest to bring the challenge, vibe and cheer of a European race. At 7,000 feet, Santa Fe is the highest capital city in the United States. It enjoys 300 days of sunshine annually and a mild four-season climate. Starting at the foot of the Rocky Mountains, riders will make a big loop through the rolling terrain of the high desert grasslands and woodlands before the long course makes a climb of more than 3,300 feet to a mountaintop finish. GFNY Santa Fe
Siendo solo la segunda carrera de GFNY en los Estados Unidos, y sede del campeonato GFNY de Norte América, GFNY World llega al suroeste americano para traernos el desafío, las vibraciones y la alegría de toda una carrera europea.
