A few comments:

1) It's a lot of work to put on a race and it's not cheap. Depending on
discipline (between permits, insurance, police, venue fees, etc) a single
race can cost thousands. Nobody in NM is getting rich off race promotion.
MTB and CX races aren't as expensive as road races but they wayyyyy more
labor intensive. Could take a team of 3-5 workers as long as a day to set
up a course. So when there's 6 people registered 2-days before an event,
can we blame the promoter when they cancel?

2) It's true most racers tend to register last minute; like they're on ebay
putting through a bid in the last seconds of a listing. I believe the
reason for this is because many want to see who and how many are signed up;
"what are my chances of getting on that podium". Other reasons are weather
forecasts and late fee's aren't significant enough. I'll admit I've found
myself guilty of all of these reasons to not register early. A solution
might be to NOT publish registrant names an even quantities. Increase late
fee's but that would mean, to be fair, race directors would need their even
open for registration months in advance. Not weeks.

3) It's been suggested, many times, that NMBRA scrap the series jerseys and
divvy the expense of jerseys between the respective race promoters. Here is
why that hasn't happened:

Depending on discipline, the cost of a set of series jerseys can be as much
as about $450-$800 (give or take). Divide that between the number of
respective events and we're taking maybe $40-60 each. So the question
becomes, what helps the race promoters more? Give the race promoters their
share of $40-60? Or, are the promoters getting additional registrants from
individuals chasing series jerseys which likely more than offsets the cost
of series jerseys? I agree with the later.

Lastly, regarding jerseys, Hadji with Racing Apparel in Santa Fe has been
pivotal in reducing the costs of series jerseys. We at NMBRA thank him and
his company for everything they do for the NM racing community.
