[NMCycling] Whoever is the owner of bike-racers, hand me the keys please

Hello all,

This spam thing needs to be worked out, and I am willing to help.

Maybe we should require an invite to join the bike racers list. The other day I did a cyclocross clinic and there was a rider there who I suggested might want to join the bike racers list. So, if someone meets someone who wants on the list, the existing member could email the admin with the new person's email, with the invite email coming from there inviting persons subscribed email. The admin could then manually add them to the list.

If someone new, maybe from out of town, wants on the list, they could email me via nmcycling.org with some references, social media profiles, phone number, etc. I could put a note with instructions for new members up on the nmcycling.org page, (which I think is the only website that mentions how to get on the list.) If vetted, I would send an invite email to the administrator. (I maintain nmcycling.org and the calendar)

For the admin:
How many new "people" join the list in a typical month?
If we remove the spammers I can't imagine it is more that 2 or 3, the community is small. How many names are there in total on the list? It used to be like about 450. If there were 100 new folks coming onto the list monthly I could understand it wanting to be automated, but with our numbers I do not see that it needs to be.

If there are questionable emails on the list now, the admin could send a list of them to the whole subscribed list and ask if anyone knows them. If no one knows them, they get booted. If someone complains about getting booted off the list they could contact me.

How does this sound?

There are at least a half dozen accounts posting scams on this list. I will boot them off and then lock down admission. I'll talk with Mark Costlow or whoever can help me at SWCP and see what can be done to make it harder for bots to request admission.
