Hello and happy fall to previous IHBC participants!
It's almost time: registration for the 2019 Iron Horse Bicycle Classic will open at a special locals only party on December 7, 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. at Mountain Bike Specialists (949 Main Ave)! We'll have drinks and food all day, so stop in and hang out for a bit during Durango's Noel Night. We'll see you there!
If you can't make it to the party, registration opens online at ironhorsebicycleclassic.com on December 8, 2018 at 8 a.m. (MST). 2019 events will include the classic rides to Silverton, Quarter Horse to Purgatory, King and Queen of the Mountain (road and MTB combined entry), Mountain Bike Race, Gravel Ride, Kids Race, and the Cruiser Crit. We're also increasing our kid's and e-bike offerings, so stay tuned!
Ride to Silverton
This is it -- the ride of a lifetime! Remember, the ride to Silverton has two options: the competitive and timed Coca-Cola Road Race or the fun and friendly (non-timed and non-competitive) McDonald's Citizen's Tour. Regardless of the rate you ride, you'll enjoy a finisher's gift and festival in Silverton 's Memorial Park when you're done.
Those planning on doing the Coca Cola Road Race in the Men’s master categories should register early as those categories generally sell out in minutes after general registration opening. Registration price for the Road Race, King and Queen, and Citizens' Tour will increase on January 1, 2019, so register early.
We will be once again offering return transportation from Silverton for those in need as part of the registration process. There will be a train or bus option which includes transporting your bike. Train spots are very limited so plan early. Cost of return transportation is $40.
Quarter Horse to Purgatory
For those not quite ready to ride all the way to Silverton, consider the Quarter Horse ride to Purgatory at just 25 miles and 2300 vertical feet of climbing. E-bikes are also permitted on this course for those who would like an extra boost!
Mountain Bike Race
The legendary IHBC Mountain Race will again travel through the brewery and, like years past, all categories will get the chance to take in the excitement and glory of the riding through the crazed scene that is Steamworks.
Gravel Ride
We will have two distance offerings for the 2019 Gravel Ride (40 and 60 miles) in a rolling course that winds throughout La Plata County. We plan to incorporate Strava timed segments on the course and offer prizes for those winners.
Limited Edition Merchandise
We also will be offering Iron Horse Bicycle Classic merchandise (jerseys, hats, and tees) for sale as part of the registration process. This will be the only way to purchase 2019 merchandise as we will not have it on sale during the event weekend. In 2018 many missed the opportunity to purchase early and were unable to get the merchandise. The 2019 merchandise looks great -- keep an eye on our social media throughout the month of November for previews of the items!
Veterans
Veterans have the opportunity to ride the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic at a discounted price. We are honored to provide the following benefit to recovering all veterans, as well as to active duty personnel. The $30 discount applies for the McDonalds Citizen’s Tour, Coca Cola Road Race, Purgatory Quarter Horse, and King and Queen of the Mountain registrations.
Please email Melanie Russek at mel@ironhorsebicycleclassic.com or call at 970-769-3486 to get your code to register. This offer is only extended to online registrations prior to the event.
We're really getting excited for the 2019 event and can't wait for you to join us! Let me know if you have any questions and we hope to see you in May.
