Hi, everyone. I could use some suggestions/recommendations for the following reason.
On Monday afternoon I was northbound in the designated bike lane on Rio Grande Blvd at what I believe was Chamizal. Out of nowhere, there was a grill a few inches from my face, which belonged to a Ford F-150 turning left onto the side street. I have to assume the truck didn't need to stop for oncoming traffic, otherwise I'd have seen it sitting there, and been on red alert. As it was, it literally came out of nowhere and delivered a direct broadside hit, as if guided by laser. Fortunately for me, the truck stopped several feet after impact, and didn't run over me.
There may have been witnesses to the whole thing, but I'm not sure. There was a car on the shoulder by the time I struggled to my feet, and they called police, and the police talked to them. The guy wanted to move his pickup out of the traffic lane, but I told him not to. Much to the amazement of the police and rescue, I declined the trip to the hospital, although I was a pretty bloody mess. Of course, the soreness I've experienced since is in a whole 'nuther realm.
Anyway, everyone I talked to within the next day or so, felt, as did I, that the driver's insurance company will be more than happy to buy me a new Devinci Hatchet Carbon, since mine was mangled. I called the driver's insurance company the next morning, and was told the adjuster would contact me within 24 hrs. When he didn't (and still hasn't), it got me thinking, and it occurred to me what I've often thought over the years when my car was hit by someone who was at fault; that I was lucky to be able to leave it to my insurance company's vested interests to go after the other driver's. And I suddenly began to feel very vulnerable, and think it would be unwise of me to go forward without legal counsel.
Recommendations for an attorney who's well versed in such matters would be appreciated.
Robert
