Thanks for your questions! Yes, we've had discussions with Active.com about removing the advantage membership from our online registration process. Unfortunately this is not an option Active.com offers. As previously commented, read through the list of charges before clicking the submit button.

And no, Santa Fe Century Committee does not receive any monies from the active.com membership fees.

I hope the above addresses the active.com questions. If you don't want to use active.com, Santa Fe Century does offer onsite registration on Saturday, May 18th during the packet pickup & Vintage Bike Celebration at Santa Fe Brewing Company, and on Sunday morning, May 19th at the Century venue SFCC.

The way the trick works is they have a checkmark you have to remove in some obscure place midway through the registration process. If you don't uncheck, you'll be signed up for a free trial of the premium Active services. Since it's free, you don't notice it during the check out process. A month later, if happen to be monitoring your credit card transactions, there it is; a charge for $90. Then you have to go through the hassle of calling and canceling. At least it's not like trying to cancel your cable TV service; no high pressure sales. I think they're banking on those people who don't closely monitor their credit card transactions and don't notice the charge go through.

Sucks we have to do this, but now whenever registering via Active, I keep a close lookout for that little checkmark for "active advantage free trial".

Have you asked active.com to make the membership opt-in or to remove the option completely?

So, do you guys get a cut of the active.com membership fees? Yes or no?

Hey everyone,
Thanks for the information regarding your experiences with the Active.com website. I'm sorry credit cards were charged for the active advantage membership. I've looked into this on active.com and it's an optional membership. At checkout, all items/charges are listed. In this listing there is the option for forgoing the processing fee and becoming an active advantage member ("processing fee waived for advantage members").
Contact Active to cancel membership and get refund by calling North America | 1-866-561-0647 | 9am to 7pm CT | Monday to Friday

As for using another online registration provider, the Century committee board of directors has looked into this many times. Currently, Active provides more of what we need (apparel sales, email blasts, meal sales, funds to multiple entities, etc.). But we always review options prior to scheduling future events, so if there is a viable option which provides all of what we require then switching is a possibility.

And thanks so much for registering for the Century! We have some exciting offerings this go around - NEW Saturday Packet Pick Up at Santa Fe Brewing and NEW caterer - YouthWorks of Santa Fe.
If you have any further questions regarding active.com online registration, please don't hesitate to contact me. Looking forward to seeing you at the Century!

Sincerely,

Mickey Fong

I just got a charge from active.com for $89.95 as a "membership". I think it is because the Santa Fe Century uses them. I would never sign up for this, and I will try to get the Century to switch to NMsportsonline.com who do not do this crap. Has anyone else had this happen? Let's try to get every event in NM to stop using these scammers.
