Since I like to sound like a broken bell:
a couple of years ago I mentioned to a NMBRA meeting that the money that we use to buy the series jersey could be used to help promoter with the cost of putting up a race. My idea was a sort of loan just to make the promoters feel comfortable while putting up a race, not to put their own money at risk.
My idea was trashed because, apparently, people really like those jerseys...like Shane, this is just my POV, but there must be a correlation with the fact that we have fewer and fewer races...

I agree with Bob’s point below. I too typically register late, but this time, given that the CX gods areblessing us with snow, I just registered - this is going to be awesome, much like last year's Roosevelt CX, 👍_______________________________________________

While I understand the fact that in NM, and perhaps elsewhere, early registrations are often a fraction of race day participation, we need to give promoters the benefit of the doubt when making a go/nogo decision.
This is absolutely true when these are simply individuals that are taking a personal financial risk. I don’t for one second blame anyone for not wanting to go into personal debt for things going bad, when trying to support their team or organization.
It’s not self fulfilling, it is self preservation.
...and this is not meant to inflame a conversation, just a different POV.

Plus, historically racers register late or on the day of the event. Shutting the event down due to low turnout is a self-fulfilling prophecy.

For the Prestige SantaCross Race the High Desert Bycicle Team will set up the show even if only the crew and some riders show up.
As a promoters we need to set up a plan and stick to it into the end and most important “Make it Work”.
We spect a low number of rider, very low maybe 20 and what YOU, rider, spect from us is a fun course, very well mark, Awards/Swag (about $500 see attached picture to have and idea) and Prizes $540 cash and equal pay.
SO that’s the PLAN and we will stick to it this year and the following years into riders know that we mean business and that together we can build a better community.
We will be at Roosevelt Middle School cleaning and setting the course on Friday from 10:00 am into 2-3 pm. See you Saturday.
At the end of the day this is Cyclo Cross, a “Winter Sport”, so, accept the challenge!

Thanks, Marcel, for putting forth the effort.
If you like to race, pre-registering makes a big difference to the race promoters. Par's Prestige Santa CX race on Saturday, 11/30, has exactly 2 people registered. Register HERE for the Prestige Santa race.
