We received the invitation below from JASNA Southwest, and since the upcoming topic of the AGM will be Austen’s Juvenilia, I felt like this is such a wonderful opportunity to take advantage of. We need to register for it ASAP as most Zoom meetings are limited to 100 people.
I realize this is almost the exact time as our planned meeting about Austen’s siblings, so we decided to delay that agenda so that as many of you as possible can hear this speaker. Note the time is Pacific Daylight Time, so be sure to tune in, once you have registered, an hour after the announced time.
Another excellent opportunity to hear James Nagle speak about inheritance in Jane Austen’s time will be on September 12th at 1:00 EDT. Once I get the Zoom link for that, I will send it, but again, don’t delay. Several regions have been invited and there is a 100 person limit. Watch for that email to come shortly.
The AGM, which will be virtual, will cost $89, and you must be a member of JASNA to register. Our region is offering 4 $30 “scholarships”, to pay for the JASNA membership, to the first 4 members who contact me. The AGM will be limited to 1000 people, so when that information comes out, and it only comes to JASNA members, be sure to sign right up, the MINUTE registration opens up. Besides the major talks and break out sessions, there will be some fun interactive activities, such as a cooking lesson and other crafts.
This is a golden opportunity to experience an AGM for those of you who may have wished to attend but found the cost of travel and hotels prohibitive. The activities and speakers will be spread out over 3 days, and I suspect will be recorded and available for a period of time after the AGM is over. However, the Zoom Q&A sessions after the talks are only available in real time.
I hope as many of you as can and are interested will participate in these wonderful opportunities, which are surely the silver lining in the Covid cloud!
