January Newsletter
With the first month of 2022 under our belts, we want to applaud you for
pushing through this chilly winter season. Don't get me wrong, that first
snow storm had us jumping for joy and was much-needed but we sure miss
being able to sit outside to watch the infamous NM sunsets.
As the days continue to grow longer and COVID-19 cases continue to be on
the decline (yay) we want to share what our team has been up to this past
month and give you the download on what's happening currently.
Be on the lookout for future newsletters where we'll feature some of the
folx behind the scenes and offer you an exclusive opportunity to get to
know us better.
Have any suggestions for what you'd like to see? Let us know by hitting the
contact us link below.
With love,
>From all of us at OEI
The Office of Equity and Inclusion has been working with a local marketing
firm to help our team reach new heights. They've put together a survey with
some simple questions and we need your help. Oh, did I mention you'll be
entered to win a $25 gift card just by completing it?
What would you do with $25? Let us know by dropping a line on one of our
social accounts (find them at the bottom of this newsletter)

Happy Black History Month!!
As we celebrate the accomplishments and contributions of the Black
community both in Albuquerque and across the country, we also want to
celebrate the recent name change of one of our offices. Last year, we asked
the community for their input in regards to a name change. You spoke, we
listened, and now it's official thanks to you. We're pleased to present the
Office of Black Community Engagement.

designed to keep people in their homes while also providing landlords
financial reassurance. The state will transition to the new program
starting March 1st 2022, bringing an end to the state’s moratorium on
evictions after two years.

Legal Aid, and the University of New Mexico Law School to offer an
additional legal clinic to those who need it most.
The event is free and you can register here.

Covid-19 Test Distribution
As you might remember, events all over the City were getting canceled last
month due to spikes in COVID-19 cases (we're still super bummed about the
MLK march...) Thankfully, Gov. Lujan Grisham ordered a million tests to be
distributed to communities that were identified as being the most socially
vulnerable.

When
the City was told we were getting over 100,000 test kits, we got to work
immediately to come up with a distribution plan to get these tests directly
into the hands of our community.
Do you still need additional test kits? Click here

to find a distribution site near you.
Also, here's our press release we put out when we first received the kits.

Inclusivity: Albuquerque's Superpower
Albuquerque is a City where we welcome people from all walks of life,
including those who seek refuge in times of need. The diversity of our City
is vast and it's what makes us so unique.
Michelle Melendez, Director for the Office of Equity and Inclusion, wrote a
beautiful op-ed in the Albuquerque Journal that captures how unique we
really are.

Incase you haven't heard about Nichole Rogers, this article written by
Albuquerque The Magazine explains just how much she is invested in her
work.
Having a background in public health and community organizing helps guide
the decisions she makes. When Mayor Keller appointed Nichole in April 2021,
he saw the value she could bring to our City, and boy was he spot on.
Read more about Nichole in the current issue of Albuquerque The Magazine
below. You can also check out the interview she did with KOB's Joy Wang in
honor of Black History Month by clicking here.
