Beginning at 7:45 am MT today is a side event featuring Santa Fean Ed
Mazria of Architecture 2030 <https://architecture2030.org/>.

Easy to watch with this link <https://carbon-positive.org/cop27/>.

Event description:
Between 2022 and 2050, global population is projected to increase by 1.88
billion people. 96% of that growth will take place in the Global South
(Africa 58%, India 12%, Middle East 15%, Southeast Asia 6% and Latin
America 5%). Between now and 2030, we will add about 550 million people –
greater than the total population of the U.S., Canada and Mexico combined.
To meet the equitable development needs of that growth will necessitate
billions of square meters of new construction and infrastructure:
approximately 188 million housing units, 2.2 million primary schools, 2.7
million secondary schools, and hospital facilities to accommodate 1.7
million hospital beds. All this development will be undertaken
simultaneously with increasing climate change impacts and the need for
adaptive buildings and infrastructure.

The question is, HOW do we build out all the development that is projected
to take place, and do it sustainably, equitably, and with zero carbon
emissions? Which architecture, landscape, and land use principles can
simultaneously support carbon mitigation, human development and wellbeing,
ecological health and restoration, adaptation and resilience, food
security, and local economies and livelihoods? What can we learn from
indigenous innovations and development patterns? Our goal at COP27 is to
answer these questions.
