*2026 LWVCNM Program Planning*
*Essential to a Voice in our Democracy*
LWVCNM hosts annual Program Planning every winter to identify issues
warranting our advocacy and there are a multitude of issues 2025-26 with
heightened LWV awareness and member concern. LWVCNM 2026 Program Planning
is virtual 2026 and scheduled this Saturday 2-21-26 @ 10:00. The Zoom link
is included below.
LWV cannot voice our concerns or support/oppose legislation without an
official Position. Local and State Positions are available in your 2025-26
LWVCNM Member Handbook (pp. 8-33/NM & pp. 36-39/LWVCNM). LWVUS Positions
are available in 2024-26 Impact on Issues Impact On Issues 2024 – 2026 |
League of Women Voters <https://www.lwv.org/impact-issues> (*A paperback

<https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DQ8K59TH?ref_=pe_93986420_774957520>* for

with an existing Position developed by another League or may be initiated
with a Study Proposal.
*The 2024-26 LWVUS Priority is Making Democracy Work *
- Making Democracy Work® by defending remaining democratic institutions
and rebuilding into a multi-racial, representative democracy through:
- Protecting and restoring voting rights protections;
- opposing anti-voter policies;
- strengthening election administration;
- protecting DC’s right to continue governing itself, and
- ensuring a well-funded, full count in the 2030 Census.
- Protecting individual liberties, upholding the Constitution, and
holding government accountable and responsive to the needs of the people.
- Applying a democracy frame to respond strategically to issues like
immigration, climate change, gun policy, and health care, including
reproductive justice
*LWVUS is encouraging local and state leagues to emphasize these topics.
Additional Items for your consideration during 2026 LWVCNM Program Planning
include:*
- LWVWA is requesting that other leagues concur with the Welcoming
Immigrants Position - LWVNM Board considered this action January 2026.
- LWVWI has requested that LWVNM Co-Chair a LWVUS study to reevaluate
the 1979 Nuclear Issues Position and LWVPA has also expressed interest in
participation.
- LWVNM conducted a Nuclear Issue study 2023-24 but no Consensus was
reached – Committee Reports, Expert Interviews, and LWVNM Study Proposal
are available at lwvnm.org.
LWVCNM always welcomes member recommendations for local studies to develop
new or revised Positions and invites you to join us Saturday offering your
insight into issues warranting our involvement.
