[Neighbors] Loud music at UNM

Perhaps the problem is the degree of amplification. I remember going into a cafe in Santa Fe that featured a guitarist. He was good but I soon left because his music was painfully amplified. Amplification is controllable.

The issue is not about the music but the loudness of the music. I also live east of Carlisle and it sounded like it was in our neighbor's back yard. In 40 years, I've never heard it this loud before.  Urban sounds are urban sounds but there is such a thing as being considerate of others in the community. When people are ill or have various shift hours at work (nurses, doctors, EMTs, firefighters, police officers, etc) and are trying to get some shut eye before going to work  but can't sleep because of unacceptable noise levels, due to non-compliance by City standards, then there is a problem.A little consideration and mindfulness from promoters of events and the bars will go a long way to not only a vibrantl community but a considerate one. Flora

I agree - the music I heard when I was outdoors was quite good. I'm not sure how this got to be a pro or con thing. I'm pro - pro, pro, pro.
I would just like the high-dollar sound company - getting paid many thousands of dollars from UNM student fees - to dial back the subwoofer boost to where the bass-line doesn't shake windows a mile away. That's what's changed since many of us were rascally college students - the technology. And events at UNM, just like the bars on Central, will keep getting louder and louder and louder, not because "the kids just wanna have fun" but because someone is justifying their expensive subwoofer array. We got plenty of hearing damage on Johnson Field 30 years ago without it carrying east of Carlisle. -dave

The music was amazing, unique, percussive and a big, free comfort from the comfort of my front porch and even later indoors!

One of the joys of living near the campus.  We also get to hear the UNM Marching Band practicing before weekend football games.

And, as Dennis pointed out, when the wind is coming from the South, we get to hear from Isotopes Park and get to watch the fireworks!

I've lived here for almost 30 years and this is the first time the music

rattled the doors and windows. From 3/4 mile that's quite a feat.

They're not going to know when they're not being good neighbors unless

someone lets them know :)

We have lived a few blocks from UNM Johnson Field for 17 years. Have heard the music etc. over the years as well as from Isotop Park and rather like the urban vibe. It has never been offensive. Paradise is always about accepting and embracing your surroundings.

It's UNM's annual fiesta. I live a block from Johnson Field and am being treated to a concert. I'm going with the flow. I'm sure it won't go on all night, unlike Imbibe, which does. My dog is alarmed, but I keep reassuring him, and now he's taking a nap.

Neighbors,

I live 3/4 mile from Johnson Field, and the music is rattling the furniture inside my house with all the doors and windows closed. Surely those of you living closer are getting a treat!

You can reach UNM Police at 277-2241. I called and was told "the officer in charge of the event will be notified".
