[Neighbors] Cams and racing on Coal/Lead

Tom, I like the idea of a permanent speed radar van or equipment on Coal/Lead.  They use those in school zones a lot and they are effective I think.

The cameras on the intersections seem to have just been a way to spend money without having a plan for using them to fight crime.  
Here is the reply from the councilman’s office on them that we were looking for….

I provided the information below to Adrian on April 20th after he requested I look into the cameras.

If you’d like, we can set up a tour of the Real Time Crime Center for you.

DMD has provided the following response regarding the cameras on Lead and Coal:

“Cameras were placed by the Lead and Coal Improvements from I-25 to Washington Project which was completed in 2012.  Traffic Engineering maintains quite a number of cameras at intersections city-wide.  They are not continuously monitored and they are not recorded or taped by Traffic Engineering.  They are primarily used to view intersections to review complaints about signal operations live.  There is also “camera-like” devices on a number of intersections around the COA.  These devices are for vehicle detection for vehicles present at a traffic signal.  They can detect both turning lanes and through lanes where appropriate.  They do not see a “picture” as such, they see a form and movement only and are not recorded.  These are an alternate to “in-ground loop detection.”  Some of these vehicle detection cameras were removed from some intersections on Lead and Coal, because they are no longer in use.”

Commander Griego from the SE Sub Station provided the following information:

“Those cameras were paid for during the renovations. They don’t belong to us but probably DMD I am guessing. We don’t monitor them but can access them in the event we have a call for service in that area. They are directed at the center of the intersection.”
