*Labor Day Closures for City Government*

Most city offices will be closed, and most city services will not be
offered on Monday, September 3, in observance of Labor Day. The 311 call
center, bus and Sun Van services, community centers, senior centers,
libraries, and the Open Space Visitors Center will all be closed that day.
But there will be regular trash and recycling pickup! For a complete list
of what services will be closed, and which services will be open that day,
visit: https://www.cabq.gov/holiday/news/labor-day-holiday-information-2018

*Tips to Avoid Facebook Scams*

Use of Facebook continues to grow, with neighborhoods and residents using
this venue to promote various events and connect with others.
Unfortunately, scam attempts via Facebook are also a concern. Below are
some tips from the Attorney General’s Office on how to protect yourself
when using Facebook or other social media sites:

· Do not accept Facebook friend requests from people you don’t know.
These individuals could be stalkers or scammers.

· If you are contacted through Facebook to send money, don’t respond,
even if you think you know the person. Fake Facebook accounts are
frequently used to try and get money out of unsuspecting users.

· Do not purchase anything via Facebook, even if you feel it is a
secure site. Instead, verify that the online shop is legitimate by doing
your own research.

· If you are contacted in a romantic way by someone you don’t know,
such as being asked for a date or to meet for coffee, do not respond.
Online dating scammers can pirate financial information very easily.

· Don’t volunteer any personal or financial information.

· If you have been contacted by a scammer, or have any reason to be
concerned about any Facebook interactions, report the person or page to
Facebook at:
https://www.facebook.com/help/1216349518398524?helpref=hc_global_nav

· If you have been the victim of an online scam, report it
immediately to the Federal Trade Commission at 877-382-4357 or
www.consumer.ftc.gov, and the Federal Bureau of Investigations at:
www.ic3.gov

*City Seeks Input on Website*

The City of Albuquerque is seeking feedback from the community regarding
our website (www.cabq.gov). Members of the public are invited to complete a
short survey about what they like and dislike about the City’s website, as
well as ideas for improvements that can be made. Please complete this
anonymous survey at http://www.cabq.gov/survey and share this link with
anyone who might have constructive feedback to provide.

*Neighborhood Association Meetings Across Town*

*Libraries Offer Weekly Events*

and weekly events in your neighborhood branch? There are story hours for
kids, Read to the Dogs, Lego Clubs, book clubs for all ages, and of course,
books and so much more! Visit the Events page at:
http://libevents.abqlibrary.org

If you’re a military veteran or know someone who is, this event is for you!
The New Mexico Department of Veteran’s Services is hosting a Veteran’s
Outreach event today, Monday, August 27 at the Los Volcanes Senior Center,
from 10:00 am. – 2:00 p.m. Don’t forget your DD-214! For more information,

*Serve on a City Board and Learn about Local Government Processes*

There are over 60 boards and panels in the City, all made of up of citizens
just like you. These boards and panels provide citizen feedback and
oversight for a wide variety of community-based initiatives that include:
police oversight, public arts, environmental planning, senior services,
impact fees, economic development, and much more. If you’re interested in
expanding your civic involvement and want to serve on a board, visit:
http://www.cabq.gov/clerk/boards-commissions for information on how to
apply.

*Recent Rains Mean Weeds in the Duke City*

As welcome as the recent rainfall has been, it also means weeds, weeds,
weeds. Weed control and removal is an essential component of ensuring an
attractive and safe neighborhood and helps control allergens in the
environment. The city’s Code Enforcement Division handles most calls for
weed removal on city property and can help you understand weed removal
requirements for private properties. For more information, visit:
http://www.cabq.gov/planning/code-enforcement/nuisance-weed-removal or call
311 to report a nuisance weed violation. You can also report nuisance weeds
on the ABQ311 free smartphone app!

*Won’t You Be My Neighbor?*

Are there senior citizens in your neighborhood? Why not get to know them
and see if there’s anything you can do to help them? Seniors often have
mobility issues or may not have dependable transportation, so offer to help
pull weeds, take their trash to the curb on collection day, take them to
the grocery store, or even just leave them a note with your telephone
number. Sometimes knowing there is someone to call is all the help folks
need!
