[Neighbors] Ants

We have a problem with Ants. The small ones that come inside.
Any ideas on how to control them?
I think too all the lawn watering increases the roach population everywhere. The fact we are on the slope side of a ridge it is likely water travels underground downhill which the roaches must like.

Thanks, good advice, we just want to make certain the bees are safe, too.

I'd really like to know what the "sewer treatment" from the city is comprised of -- conventional/neurotoxic pesticides? A mechanical cleanout?
I don't think I will need it, but do believe it's important to know what it is.
For those looking to do some self treatment, I'd like to recommend two items I've been using that have kept my troubles to a minimum (I've seen about 5 roaches indoors so far this season).
Niban- you can get it on Amazon. It's a boric acid bait. I put it out every couple of weeks, or after rain, or once a week in 'high season'. Around the edges of the house - where they have been known to congregate. Also, I believe it is most effective sprinkled in the evening, when the bugs first come out. Maybe the fresh smell is most enticing. And, if you wait for them to show up, you can know that you are getting it directly to them. I usually toss some in by the water meter, too. It can take a few days to see the result - the roaches take it home to share with others - as I understand it, it impedes their ability to get energy from food (they starve). So, if you see some moving slowly, it's working and the population will drop a big chunk in a couple of days.
Diatomaceous earth is another item you can use - I believe I've seen it at TruValue. It cuts their exoskeletons and they dehydrate. Maybe best to get a bulb applicator, as it needs to be applied around edges indoors in a fine layer (if it's thick, they will walk around it). If you have difficulty finding a bulb duster, you can buy one online. I got mine at domyown.com <http://domyown.com/> as well as a gadget to make it possible to dust under the house.
The best thing about both of these is that they are not toxic for people and are declared safe to use around pets. Better for the environment and still quite effective.
Hope that's useful/helpful!

I think in my case the main sewer line might be a source, as the bathroom seems to have the most of the critters in the morning and I have had a few in the tub/shower. I also believe that the water meter at the sidewalk is a prime suspect - wet and dark. I treated it with boric acid. Not sure where else to target my personal action? I have contact ABCWUA and requested a sewer treatment service as per Pat Davis' suggestion.

Yes for sure the city needs to be contacted. As well we need to take personal action as these small roaches proliferate at amazing speed.
