Hello Albuquerque, 

As we continue the fight against coronavirus, new challenges emerge. For many, a pressing challenge is our children’s education and childcare. Now I know that like many parents, this week is not the first we’ve spent worrying about this very non-traditional school year, but the unpredictability of this pandemic has made it difficult to really plan ahead. 

We know that many working parents are being faced with an impossible decision - go to work and look for childcare or stay home and lose a paycheck. At the City we are stepping up for working families through our extended out-of-school programming. Today, we announced full day youth programming opportunities through the end of the year that will help thousands of Albuquerque families.  We are also creating  resources to make information about   developmental needs  and mental health for kids and parents as accessible as possible. 

In addition to the worry that has come from the changes caused by coronavirus, we are still grappling with systemic racism everywhere in our country. We thank everyone  who has exercised their constitutional rights in a peaceful manner. We are still listening, learning, and working toward a more just and equitable Albuquerque for everyone. 

As we move forward, remember to take care of yourselves and each other.

“Though necessary, we know that ongoing changes to the school schedule are incredibly hard on working families. In spite of all the limitations and complications, we found a way to provide full day youth programs to help thousands of working families keep their kids safe 

and engaged when they have to go to work," said Mayor Tim Keller. 

Survey Gives Albuquerque Residents Chance to Shape City’s Fight Against Climate Change

The City of Albuquerque is asking residents to help shape its plan of action on one of the most important issues facing our community: climate change.

Survey responses will be shared with the public and will directly inform the priorities and content of the Climate Action Plan on issues such as clean transportation, sustainable buildings, renewable energy, and recycling.

One Albuquerque Fund Partners with Corporate Volunteer Council of New Mexico (CVCNM) for School Supply Drive

The One Albuquerque Fund and the Corporate Volunteer Council of New Mexico (CVCNM) are  <https://cabq.us18.list-manage.com/track/click?u=57590ee48a0d248f7f0fb64f6&id=3fa0cf6f41&e=8aa5b8f488> partnering to raise funds for school supplies benefitting Albuquerque Public Schools (APS) now through August 5th, 2020. With the upcoming school year posing many challenges for students and families, school supplies are a necessity when it comes to education access.

Over 60% of APS students qualify for free or reduced-price lunches, and many of

these families struggle to provide school supplies for their students. A national survey shows that teachers spend over $500 of their own money every year to help their students get the supplies they need.

Mayor Tim Keller held a Facebook Town Hall on July 31, 2020 at 10:00 am. This was an opportunity for city leaders to answer questions from people across Albuquerque who wanted to know more about the local COVID-19 response and recovery.

Auto Theft Continues Decline in Albuquerque

The Albuquerque Police Department continues to  <https://cabq.us18.list-manage.com/track/click?u=57590ee48a0d248f7f0fb64f6&id=382c0292a0&e=8aa5b8f488> drive down auto thefts, as a new national ranking shows the metro area moved out of the top spot for vehicle theft rates for the first time in years. APD has worked with the state Office of Superintendent of Insurance and the New Mexico State Police to target auto theft.

“This dubious distinction has been a sore spot for Albuquerque, so we’re actually glad that we finally climbed out of the

number one ranking for the first time in years,” said Mayor Tim Keller.

Mayor Tim Keller Reopened ABQ BioPark Zoo

The  <https://cabq.us18.list-manage.com/track/click?u=57590ee48a0d248f7f0fb64f6&id=f858b8cd31&e=8aa5b8f488> ABQ BioPark Zoo is reopened to the public after months of closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The City welcomed the public back to its outdoor exhibits on Wednesday, August 12, 2020.

"Especially with questions remaining around the re-opening of schools this fall, our City is stepping up to support families and parents, and the BioPark is a big part of that," said Mayor Tim Keller. "We're excited to bring this family favorite back in a safe way."
