Special Procedures for December 20, 2021 City Council Meeting

In response to the ongoing Public Health Emergency, the City Council Meeting on Monday, December 20, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. will be held via Zoom video conference. Rail Trail Framework Plan Available Online for Public Comment and Feedback

The City of Albuquerque's Metropolitan Redevelopment Agency (MRA) has released the initial draft of its Rail Trail Framework Plan. The Rail Trail is part of the City's work to enhance quality of life for all residents by increasing foot traffic for local businesses, reducing crime by increasing the number of eyes on the street, and improving public health by expanding outdoor leisure spaces and providing more outdoor entertainment options. Holiday Travel Tips from the
ABQ Sunport

In preparation for one of the most-traveled holidays and some of the busiest travel days since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Albuquerque International Sunport has some holiday travel tips to ensure a safe and enjoyable travel experience. To ensure a safe holiday traveling experience for all passengers, travelers are recommended to arrive at the airport early, check flight status frequently, ensure what you pack is TSA-approved, wear a mask. Below are some other helpful hints for making your holiday travel as stress-free as possible:  

*	Anticipate longer than normal wait times and the possibility that some shops, restaurants, or amenities may not be available
*	Arrive to the airport at least two hours prior to flight departure
*	The Sunport has three on-site parking options: a four-level parking garage and two economy lots, all accessible from the lower level
*	Check directly with the airline for the most up-to-date flight information
*	Visit tsa.gov or @AskTSA on Twitter for information related to allowable items in both carry-on and checked baggage
*	Passengers are permitted one carry-on bag and one personal item (such as a purse, backpack, or diaper bag) through the security checkpoint
*	Remember the 3-1-1 rule: any liquids must be 3 ounces or less and fit comfortably in one quart-size zip-top bag, one bag per passenger
*	A valid New Mexico drivers license is acceptable for security screening and to board an aircraft
*	Wear a face mask at all times within the airport and on the aircraft

City Closures for Christmas Day and New Year's Day

The City of Albuquerque will observe Christmas Day on Saturday, December 25, and New Year's Day on Saturday, January 1. The vast majority of City services and offices will be closed on those days, and with many offices closing at 3:00 p.m. the day before. NMDOT Invites New Mexicans to "Take a Ride on Us" with Uber This Holiday Season

The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) is doing its part to help keep people safe on the roads this holiday season by urging folks to use Uber if they will be drinking. NMDOT and Uber are offering an Uber credit up to $15.00, two riders per person, starting at noon on Monday, December 20 through 3:00 a.m. Monday, December 27. Creative Ways to Reduce Holiday Waste and Recycle Right

The holidays are here and the Solid Waste Management Department wants to remind you about the importance of reducing waste and recycling right this season. During the holidays, household waste in America increases by about 25 percent. That is an additional one million tons of materials a week going into U.S. landfills. The good news is that many of these materials can be recycled or reused. Items that CANNOT be recycled include: 

*	Wrapping paper
*	Christmas lights
*	Tree ornaments
*	Christmas trees, either real or artificial
*	Tissue paper
*	Bows
*	Plastic wrap and plastic bags
*	Styrofoam peanuts
*	Wreaths and tinsel

Lavender Libros Program Transitions to Global Give a Book Program

Lavender Libros, a children's literacy initiative established in early 2020 by City Councilor Cynthia D. Borrego (D-5) as a way to promote reading and literacy during the pandemic, will be transitioned to the Global Give a Book Program in 2022. Members of the community were recorded reading their favorite children's books aloud and the videos were uploaded to the Lavender Libros YouTube channel for everyone to enjoy.
