Also, recently you may have seen the invitation from Mark Nelson of our association to a kickoff for an initiative called Extension of Community Healthcare Outcomes for University and Nob Hill.

Project ECHO was created as a medical model to tele-mentor doctors across geographic distances. The goal of this model is to create better outcomes among patients by sharing best practices among doctors treating specific illnesses. The ECHO model is being used as to increase public safety – as part of a true community policing initiative -- and will serve as a model for more areas.

The City of Albuquerque and the Nob Hill Neighborhood Association will be hosting a Zoom meeting this Wednesday June 16th from 6:00 to 7:00 PM where you can learn more and make your voice heard. Lavender Libros Continues This Week with APS School Board Member and Spouse
The Lavender Libros literacy initiative continues this week with Candelaria Patterson, Albuquerque Public Schools (APS) Board Member for District 5, and her husband Frank Patterson, reading their favorite children's book on Wednesday, June 16. Lavender Libros is an online literacy program that encourages our children in Albuquerque to read as often as possible. Public Meeting on Proposed Rail Trail Encourages Resident Feedback

NMDWS Warns of Fraudulent Calls and Text Messages Regarding Unemployment Benefits

The New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions (NMDWS) warns the public of fraudulent calls and text messages being sent to residents across the state. The text messages claim to be from NMDWS and ask for personal identification information regarding unemployment benefits. If you have received this text and clicked on the link in the text message, please report it to:  <mailto:id.verify at state.nm.us> id.verify at state.nm.us. Make certain to verify that you are going to the correct website as well. The fraudulent text directs people to a website that is not an official state government website. Coffee with a Cop Hosted by Northwest Area Command

You are invited to come out and meet the officers of the Northwest Area Command next Tuesday, June 22 at 9:00 a.m., at Starbucks, 3410 NM Hwy 528, north of Lowe's. Pet Health and Safety in the Hot Summer Months
Don't forget that the hot summer months can be dangerous for your dog or cat, so here are some tips for keeping Fido and Fluffy happy and healthy in the heat:

*	Keep your pets indoors, particularly during the hottest times of day.
*	If pets must be outdoors, make certain they have plenty of shade and plenty of fresh water.
*	Walk your dog early in the morning when it's cool, or later in the evening.
*	Remember that the hot pavement can burn their paws! If you can't comfortably place your hand on the ground for 10 seconds, then it is not safe for your pet.
*	Never, ever leave your pet alone in a car, even if the windows are down. They can suffocate and die in a very short time. It is also illegal!
*	Know the symptoms of overheating, which include excessive panting or difficulty breathing, increased heart and respiratory rate, drooling, weakness, stupor or even collapse. Get them to a vet immediately if you see these symptoms.

Special City Council Meeting on Thursday, June 17 to Address 2020 IDO Updates and Amendments for Cannabis
On Thursday June 17, at 3:00 p.m. via Zoom, Albuquerque City Council will hold a Special City Council meeting on the 2020 Integrated Development Ordinance (IDO) Annual Update, which includes amendments to address recreational cannabis. The IDO is the city’s regulatory document governing land development and use of property. The IDO was updated in 2019 to address possible future cannabis businesses during a time when the New Mexico Legislature was having advanced discussion about legalizing a market for cannabis, following the lead of other States. While the IDO took steps in 2019 in anticipation of possible, future legalization, that day is now here. The New Mexico Legislature enacted House Bill 2 (The Cannabis Regulation Act), at a special session of the state legislature in early 2021. The City Council is now considering updates to the IDO in response to that Act. While the State Legislature established a licensing and industry structure through the Cannabis Regulation Act, it is the job of local government to determine where it would be most appropriate for those licenses and that industry to operate within the City, and under what limitations to best preserve the character of special places and ensure compatibility with surrounding areas and community goals. The City Council has access to many tools through zoning regulations to accomplish community goals relating to cannabis uses. The provisions the City Council will be considering bridge the gap between a paper license issued by the State, and the physical establishments that will operate in the City. They relate to the density of facilities (i.e., how many facilities are within proximity of one another), distance separation requirements from perceived sensitive land uses such as schools and daycares, limitations on signage and operating hours, and how zoning regulations can ensure equitable and fair access to economic opportunities for all communities in the City, among others. Juneteenth Holiday Observed This Friday, June 18
The City will observe the Juneteenth holiday this Friday, June 18, with the actual holiday falling on Saturday, June 19. Several City offices will be closed, but many City services will still be available. There will be regular bus and Sun Van service, regular trash and recycle pickup, and all museums, libraries, City pools and golf courses, and Tingley Beach will all be open. Animal Protection Officers Available to Assist with Unexpected Critters in your Yard 
Did you know that Albuquerque Animal Protection Officers are available 27/7 to assist with unexpected critters visiting your yard or even your car? In the summer, rattlesnakes and bullsnakes can sometimes slither onto our property and it is always best to have an Animal Protection Officer deal with these scaly visitors. Even though bullsnakes are not poisonous, they are easily mistaken for rattlesnakes, which are definitely venomous! Please call 311 during regular business hours to request an Animal Protection Officer, and between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., call 242-COPS and an Animal Protection Officer will be sent out.

National Night Out (NNO) will take place Tuesday, August 3 this year! NNO is an annual community initiative that promotes neighborhood safety and networking, and connects neighbors with law enforcement and other City officials to enhance communication.
