*The ENIAC Six*
Most people have probably heard of the ENIAC, the first electronic computer
that could execute general programs, that was invented at the University of
Pennsylvania in 1946. However, until quite recently, history had largely
erased the work of six women, Kathleen Antonelli, Jean Bartik, Betty
Holberton, Marlyn Meltzer, Frances Spence, and Ruth Teitelbaum, recently
dubbed the “ENIAC Six”, in bringing the ENIAC to life.

These women’s contributions to the project were comprehensively hidden,
such as when published photos of the ENIAC only included its male
contributors, even though two of the women, Marlyn Meltzer and Ruth
Teitelbaum, were the engineers who publicly demonstrated the ENIAC at its
unveiling.
