"Touch a Truck" Event this Saturday Encourages Families to Attend

City Councilor Renée Grout (D-9) and the Foothills Area Command of the Albuquerque Police Department (APD) are hosting a family event called "Touch a Truck" this Saturday, July 16, 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., at the Four Hills Shopping Center. This free and fun event provides an opportunity for kids of all ages to learn about get close to APD and Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office vehilcles, fire trucks from the Albuquerque Fire Rescue Department, military vehicles, and construction equipment. Animal Welfare's adoption van will also be on hand with pets looking for good homes so you might also meet your new best friend! Solid Waste Reminds Residents to Properly Dispose of Hazardous Waste

The Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD) is reminding residents to avoid disposing of hazardous wastes in collection and recycling carts. Loose trash that is not bagged can also catch collection trucks on fire. There have been several collection truck fires this summer, putting Solid Waste collection drivers and residents at risk. The following items should NEVER be put into trash or recycling bins:
* Flammable or combustible liquids such as gasoline, oil-based paints, or kerosene
* Hazardous materials including items such as ammonia, bleach, pool chemicals, pesticides, paint thinners, etc.
* Cylinders containing compressed gas such as oxygen, propane, helium, acetylene, or fire extinguishers
* Rechargeable batteries which contain heavy metals including lithium, nickel cadmium, or lead-acid
* Ashes from fireplaces, fire pits, or barbecue grills

Altura Park Neighborhood Association Seeking Feedback from Other Associations

The Altura Park Neighborhood Association is seeking feedback from other neighborhood associations about suggested database software to keep track of association-related information such as membership, contact information and fiscal issues. If your association has any suggestions or ideas about what type of software might be economical and easy to use, contact Debra Heath at: <mailto:debraolive at hotmail.com> debraolive at hotmail.com. The ONC will host a virtual panel discussion for neighborhoods on this topic in the next few months, depending on feedback and suggestions from other neighborhood associations, so stay tuned.

The Auto Theft Division of the Albuquerque Police Department (APD) is hosting a free VIN etching event on Saturday, July 30 from 9:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., in the parking lot at 11 Coors Blvd. NW. VIN etching is a proven method to help protect your vehicle from auto theft, so the public is encouraged to come out and get their VIN etched on their vehicles.
