New Mexico Legal Aid Hosts Educational Webinars for National Consumer Protection Week

In recognition of National Consumer Protection Week, New Mexico Legal Aid is pleased to announce the hosting of two educational webinars aimed at empowering consumers with knowledge and insights to protect their rights and avoid common scams and frauds. These webinars will be presented on Zoom by the managing attorney of New Mexico Legal Aid's Consumer Law Practice Group.

According to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), National Consumer Protection Week, observed this year from March 3rd to March 9th, serves as an annual reminder to inform individuals about their consumer rights and provide resources to prevent fraud and deception.

Details for the webinars are as follows:

March 5 - Are You Collection Proof?
· Date: March 5
· Time: 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
· Description: Are you being sued or have debt?  Are you on a fixed income? Do you own a house? Join us for a presentation on what it means to be collection proof and how that affects your income and assets.

March 7 - Car Purchase: What You Should Know
· Date: March 7
· Time: 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
· Description: Join us for a presentation on purchasing a vehicle, including knowing when to walk away. We will talk about the ins and outs of buying a car and what rights you have as a consumer.

Every year on March 15th, the consumer movement observes World Consumer Rights Day to raise awareness about consumer rights and needs on a global scale. This day provides an opportunity to advocate for the respect and protection of consumer rights while addressing market abuses and social injustices that undermine these rights.

Globally recognized and supported by organizations like the United Nations, World Consumer Rights Day has been championed by Consumers International for 40 years. Each year, Consumers International Members collaborate to select campaign topics that mobilize global action on pressing consumer issues.

As we mark this important day, New Mexico Legal Aid's Consumer Law Practice Group stands alongside consumers worldwide, providing essential legal assistance and advocating for consumer rights in our communities.
