[Neighbors] TENTS in our Nob Hill ALLEYS, is this what you all want?

Mike.
I hear your fear and anger. Homeless, drugs, mental illness and crime sure do suck. Not sure anybody is in favor of any of them. I’m not. We got it. Enough on that.
What I’m not hearing from you are constructive solutions. Sure, I telling somebody who volunteered to help with NHNA (e.g., the President) to suddenly become one-man security force for the entire neighborhood is an idea. But it’s an unfair and unwise idea. NHNA is just a volunteer organization. Its volunteers have no more authority nor responsibility for that than you. They can and are working some aspects of the problem. Just not that sort of thing.
Please share with us constructive, feasible, realistic solutions. Not rants.
Finally, I recommend you go to the NHNA meetings and see what the organization is about before you demand any more action from the volunteers. Perhaps you will find a roll where you can be the change you wish to see.
Sincerely
Michael McDonald.

It’s stunning to my wife and I how little we are doing as a neighborhood association. Do some of you not understand that no one will buy a home if a crazy deranged homeless person is “camping” in their alley? (And we need more young families to move here, we don't need to scare them away). Or that you will not be able to sell to anyone once they discover a homeless nut is in a tent in their alley? Who is going to move into that house with young kids? Let’s talk safety. Do you want alleys filled with crazy people on meth looking in your yard for things to steal? Do you want drug paraphernalia and human waste near your home? Do you want your kids to walk near this? We do not.

However, I did receive an email from NHNA about an “event” for a church that is luring these people CLOSER to Nob Hill with “goodie bags.” I really think some of the leadership of our neighborhood association needs to acknowledge they are not up to the task of handling our homeless issue in Nob Hill and step aside. Just like Biden, for the good our of neighborhood. Seriously, thank you but please, get out of the way before our neighborhood is ruined. We have lived here several years and not one time have we seen our neighborhood association president walking around, introducing themselves, asking about concerns, walking the alleys to make sure all is well. They should be doing that. Our President should be walking our neighborhood and reporting any tents. They are not. It can be done with both firmness (no, you're not setting up your tent here, period) and compassion (here are ALL the city services to help you).

So I would suggest, when you see these tents pop up take them down! Go out there with garbage bags and remove them. Do not create a confrontation, if someone is there, call ACS/the police, but if no one is there, we’ll be taking them down if they ever get to our alley. We have a right to protect our home values. We have a right to protect our safety. They WILL turn our neighborhood, our beautiful historic neighborhood, into a disaster in the blink of an eye. Please care about our properties and our safety. Report tents (that are anywhere in our neighborhood) and suspicious behavior to the police.
