HinJRB,

I do a monthly treatment with diatomaceous earth (DE, food grade), using
a duster in the crawl space and garage. Sometimes also apply it indoors
in key areas like under the stove, edges of floor especially if the
molding is loose.

I also throw Niban into the crawl space (boric acid bait) and key areas
outside (I go.out when it's dark and see where they are partying ~
always nice to supply supply them with snacks that they can take home to
their nests).

Both of those interventions are considered non-toxic, if that's an
interest.

Regarding the city ~ they sometimes treat the sewer lines (I think with
boric acid or DE). You can call and ask.

Another couple of things ~

See if you can find out where they are coming in. I had two thresholds
(elfor exterior doors) replaced, due to piles of roaches coming up that
way (apparent nests underneath). Put DE and Niban into the cracks when
the old threshold was removed and got it sealed up well.

The most expensive thing you can do is replace your plumbing ~ exit and
sewer lines. Roaches tend to build condos in there and, if you have any
leaks that makes nice places for them to grow communities in the dirt
under your house. Additional thought ~ if you have lots of moist wood
chips as landscaping, well, it's great for them.

All the best! It's definitely a part of living here, and it can get
better with even gentle persistence :)
